The Elegance of the 12th-Century Bliaut
This dress is inspired by the bliaut, a characteristic garment of women's fashion in the 12th century during the Romanesque period. The bliaut became popular in the courts of France, England, and the Hispanic kingdoms, characterized by its loose cut, adjustable with side laces that allowed for shaping the silhouette. Contrasting-colored sleeves and hems were a sign of status and wealth, while decorative embroidery on the neckline and cuffs reflected the craftsmanship of the era. This style was worn by nobles, bourgeois women, and court ladies during the height of Romanesque art.
