In the heat of medieval battle, not only the chest and arms were the targets of enemy steel. The legs, vital to maintaining a knight's posture, forward movement, and stability, also required effective protection. The lower mail armor , crafted from intricate steel rings, offered the necessary security to resist cuts, lance thrusts, and stabs that sought to injure the warrior from below.

Among these defenses are chainmail skirts , which protected the waist and thighs, extended leggings that reached the knees, and chainmail legwarmers , used to reinforce the shin and calf under the armor. Each piece was designed to move with the body without losing strength, ensuring the knight could fight freely without sacrificing protection.
