German Gothic Sallet with extended neck guard, 15th century, 2mm steel
In the 15th century, the helmet known as the schaller replaced the kettle hat. By the middle of the century, it had become one of the most widely used combat helmets throughout Europe. This type of helmet existed in many shapes and variants, from simple to elaborate, open or visored, with more or less pronounced neck protection, etc., and was especially popular in Italy (celata), Germany, France (salade), and England (sallet).
The hand-forged wearable Gothic helmet we offer here is made of 2mm thick steel and is therefore suitable for reenactment combat. The one-piece molded helmet bell features a long neck guard and a slight ridge or comb running along the crown. It is equipped with a movable visor that is attached with steel rivets. When closed, the hinged visor leaves a viewing slit approximately 1.5 cm wide and 17 cm long with the bottom edge extended forward, ensuring sufficient visibility and air circulation.
The blackened interior has an adjustable leather inlay fixed with rivets (the neck protection is also lined with leather). The leather chin strap is equipped with a steel buckle.
This late medieval visored helmet will make your transformation into a noble knight simply perfect and is, of course, also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure.
