Thompson Sabre
Cold Steel’s® Thompson Sabre is not a replica of an existing historical model. It is rather a modern, newly developed battle sword. It takes its name from Cold Steel® President Lynn C. Thompson, who designed it. The Thompson Sabre was manufactured to Lynn's exact specifications. Lynn has practiced historical European, Japanese, and Filipino martial arts for decades and has trained with everything from short, light machetes to two-handed medieval swords. From all these different sources, Lynn selected the features he preferred and incorporated them into the Thompson Sabre.
Here is what he says: "I wanted to create a combat sword. Not in the sense of a dueling sword, but a true swordsman's sword for the modern martial artist. When it comes to facing multiple adversaries, I consider the cutting edge more important than the point. It offers more ways to block, parry, counter, and move without being stabbed in a careless second. As a result, the Thompson Sabre, whether on foot or on horseback, is designed primarily for cutting, although it remains a good thrusting weapon. It was ground to my exact specifications. Starting from the tip, the first 6 inches are very sharp. Then, the blade gradually becomes less sharp toward the handle. This means it is still strong enough to block, parry, or even effectively strike an opponent’s sword. The blade is deeply blued and is therefore not only better protected against corrosion, but also harder to detect in the frenetic pace of battle."
The guard plate of the Thompson Sabre is a modified version of the 1904 saber guard and offers excellent hand protection. The oversized handle is wrapped in ray skin and provides enough space even for large, modern fencing gloves. Included in the delivery is a durable scabbard made of sturdy leather and steel, with a belt loop for easy carrying.

The carbon content and the relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very sturdy material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that need to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed-blade knives, machetes, and swords.
