Gothic Arm Protection
DescriptionYour squire fastens the straps of your custom gothic armor, adjusting it to fit snugly and comfortably over your gambeson. You paid a lot of money for this armor, and you expect people to be impressed when they see how it shines on the battlefield.
Your blacksmith assured you that the gothic armor design was state-of-the-art, capable of resisting and deflecting attacks, even arrows from enemy bows. You are indeed a powerful warrior to own such refined craftsmanship. A fitting symbol of your divine status.
DETAILS
The Epic Armoury Gothic Arm Protection is a set of steel elbow plates, or couters, designed to protect the elbow joints. The elbow plates are rounded with reinforcement ridges and decorative steel rivets. Around the edge of each cup, a large V-shaped ridge deflects blows away from the elbows. A half-bracer protects the upper arm, while a bracer protects the forearm below the couters. High-quality leather straps are used to close the bracers, and a third leather strap around the elbow keeps the piece in place.
The gothic arm protection is made of mild steel with rolled edges that form ridges around the borders. The design is historically inspired by the Renaissance, but the style and functionality are fully interchangeable with other Epic Armoury armor, allowing for the freedom to mix and match armor and customize a character's appearance to suit your needs.
Available in size medium/large.
HISTORY
- Gothic style historically developed between the years 1420 and 1440 thanks to technological advances
- Characterized by curves, fluting, and ridges, which strengthened the armor and deflected projectiles

Maintenance
Epic Armoury Metal Works products should be treated with quality wax or acid-free vegetable oil and stored in a dry place. Metal armor that contains leather parts would require separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather Straps and Accessories" section below for leather cleaning and maintenance using leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. Oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is slightly more difficult to remove all the oil from chainmail links, but it can be done in the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and for the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is excellent for drying your armor, but you can also use a hair dryer or a heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather parts when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Humidity is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly oil the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a coat of wax to the entire exposed metal surface. Allow the wax to dry for a couple of hours and then buff it lightly with a soft cloth.
Prevention and removal of oxidation
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected area with a slightly abrasive pad dampened with wax or quality acid-free vegetable oil. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and accessories
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently scrub with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clear any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe any remaining water off the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
