Shackles
DescriptionThe streets are dangerous, overrun by criminals and ruffians. The only thing protecting merchants and civilians is the Guard. You are a member of the Guard and your duty is to protect the common citizens of your city.
At night you patrol the streets with your sword and a pair of shackles ready. You protect the people who are not rich enough to hire their own bodyguards: helping is your life's calling.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury's shackles are a set of simple-looking irons for binding wrists. Each solid metal cuff is made of darkened mild steel, connected by a sturdy metal chain that can be attached to a belt using a hook. A metal crossbar is used to lock each cuff.
To lock the cuffs, each bar is equipped with a simple lock. When set, the lock allows the crossbars to move up or down in the cuff to release or trap the hands. These shackles are a perfect detail or accessory to add to a guard costume.
HISTORY
- The term shackles is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word, handcop (what traps the hands)
- References to shackles have appeared as early as the 4th century B.C.
Quality
- Made of 19 gauge / 1 mm thick mild steel
- Rolled edges with no sharp edges
- Straps and fittings made of top-quality leather
- Hand-welded parts for maximum durability
- Polished steel finish

Maintenance
Epic Armoury metalwork products should still be treated with oil and kept in a dry place. All our metal armor contains leather parts that need regular maintenance using leather care products to prevent the leather from drying out.
Cleaning
If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it completely as soon as possible.
After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be cleaned with a clean cloth. Lightly grease the clean surface with a quality machine or mineral oil. Alternatively, you can apply a layer of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Prevention and removal of rust
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected area with a slightly abrasive pad dampened with paste wax, oil, or water-displacing fluid.
Leather straps and fittings
Clean by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently rub with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clear any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe remaining water off the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning, as the soap will have stripped some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Allow the leather to soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
