Tinker Bastard Sword - Sharp
Michael 'Tinker' Pearce has designed a range of Hanwei swords made of 5160 steel that combine authenticity, functionality, and performance.
In order to meet the different demands of Western martial artists, there is a sharp and a blunt version of each of the seven swords, all of which offer excellent handling. The careful heat treatment of the 5160 steel (Tinker's preferred steel) by marquenching results in an excellent combination of strength and flexibility with a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This allows for greater edge retention on sharp blades, while preventing burring on blunt models and ensuring tip safety.
Replacement blades are available for every sword type in this series, with the exception of the Early Viking Sword. A key feature of Tinker's designs is that the blades are replaceable. This gives you the opportunity to buy a complete sword plus a spare blade so you can use both the sharp and blunt versions. All longswords, bastard swords, and early medieval swords feature Tinker's special hex-nut mounting system, which allows for easy blade replacement with an Allen wrench and ensures the handle remains securely attached.
The hand-and-a-half swords (Oakeshott Type XVIIIA) are designed so that both the sharp and blunt versions feel the same in the hand. The swords feel and perform the same during both training and combat. The sharp sword is also manufactured in two slightly different versions: it is available both with a blade featuring a continuous diamond cross-section (item number HN-SH2400) and in a version (otherwise identical) with a fuller for approximately one-third of its length (item number HN-SH2411). The scent-stopper pommel is designed to function as a second-hand grip when needed, and the straight crossguard provides excellent hand protection. The handle has a cord-wrapped hardwood core, covered in leather and fitted with steel hardware. A leather-covered scabbard is included.
