Enjoy the Italian Long Sword With Scabbard - Man-at-Arms Series
Cold Steel® Man at Arms (MAA) Italian Long Sword with Scabbard
This is the Man at Arms (MAA) version of the original Cold Steel® Italian Long Sword (item no. CST-88ITS).
The medieval man-at-arms was a brave and loyal fighter filled with martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often the first into the fray, and although not a knight, he fought and trained alongside them as a brother-in-arms. In honor of these tough, dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms collection. Compared to Cold Steel’s® premium versions, these battle-ready weapons lack the usual bright blades and silver-polished steel elements, but the MAA series products are close to the others in quality and performance. The fully sharpened, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic look, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of Cold Steel’s® finest blades, but at a significantly lower price. If you have always wanted to own a Cold Steel® edged weapon but could never afford one, then this collection is made for you.
The age of the long sword spanned nearly three centuries (from approximately 1350 to 1650), and undoubtedly because it did an excellent job! This sword had a characteristic cross-shaped hilt, a long double-edged blade, and was equally suitable for facing opponents in light and heavy armor. Its particularly long blade provided the reach and leverage needed to thrust and cut with force, while its long cross-guard and heavy pommel could be used as striking weapons and also to hook and unbalance the opponent or control their weapon. When it was necessary to pierce heavy plate armor, slashes with the sword were almost ineffective and were often omitted in favor of the so-called half-sword technique: in this type of combat, the swordsman held the sword handle with one hand and gripped the blade with the other to guide the sword point with greater precision and pierce the gaps and joints of the knight's armor more accurately. This Cold Steel® reconstruction was inspired by the design of the Italian sword. Although the blade and center of gravity are designed more for thrusting attacks, the edges are also surprisingly effective. Furthermore, the simple, cross-shaped design, with its long, downward-curved guard and balanced fish-tail pommel, offers all the possibilities of sword fighting.
The MAA Italian Long Sword comes with a leather scabbard with blued steel fittings.
1090 Carbon Steel
1090 carbon steel is an excellent choice for larger fixed blades. It sharpens easily and holds that edge, yet it remains tough enough to withstand the most brutal stress tests. In short: a good, all-purpose carbon steel that remains very durable even with heavy use.
