Enjoy the Italian Longsword With Scabbard
Italian longsword with scabbard, sharpened
The era of the longsword spanned nearly three centuries (from approximately 1350 to 1650) and undoubtedly because it did an excellent job! This sword featured a characteristic cruciform hilt, a long double-edged blade, and was equally well-suited for facing opponents in light and heavy armor. Its particularly long blade provided the reach and leverage necessary for powerful thrusting and cutting, while its long crossguard and heavy pommel could be used as striking weapons and also to hook and unbalance the opponent or control their weapon. When it was necessary to pierce heavy plate armor, sword blows were almost ineffective and were often omitted in favor of the so-called half-sword technique: in this type of combat, the swordsman held the sword handle with one hand and gripped the blade with the other to guide the sword's point with greater precision and more accurately pierce the gaps and joints of the knight's armor.
This Cold Steel® reconstruction was designed based on the Italian sword design. Although the blade and center of gravity are designed more for thrusting attacks, the edges are also surprisingly effective. Furthermore, this simple, cruciform-shaped craft, with its long, downward-curved crossguard, leather-wrapped wooden handle, and counterbalancing fish-tail pommel, offers all the possibilities of sword fighting.
The Italian longsword comes with a leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel fittings.
Details:
- Material: 1060 carbon steel blade, wooden handle with leather cover.
- Overall length: approx. 119.4 cm
- Handle length: approx. 29.2 cm
- Blade length: approx. 90.2 cm
- Weight: approx. 1273 g
- Includes leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel fittings
- Cold Steel® item number: 88ITS
The matching companion dagger for the Italian longsword is also available (item no. CST-88ITD). Because the sword is well-balanced and light enough to be used with one hand, Cold Steel® suggests a dagger as a secondary weapon instead of a shield, buckler, or targe: smaller in size but almost identical in appearance, its highly tapered, double-edged blade is designed more for thrusting attacks than for striking edges and is also strong enough to defend against any sword blow.
