This
medieval chainmail coif
follows the tradition of the
European fighter from the 12th to 14th centuries
and offers protection for the head, neck, and shoulders during an era when steel ring armor dominated the battlefield. This coif is crafted from
14-gauge butt-jointed aluminum rings
with a
10mm inner diameter
imitating the density and drape of traditional steel chainmail without the excessive weight.
A unique feature of this piece is the integration of
rubber rings
woven into the structure of the chainmail. These flexible components provide
greater elasticity and comfort
while maintaining tension in the weave. This hybrid construction method offers a
modern advantage in flexibility
while keeping the historical concept intact.
The classic coif design includes a full drape over the
head, shoulders, and upper chest
and the upper chest, allowing it to be worn alone or under a helmet. The flared bottom edge mimics surviving examples from medieval Europe, offering coverage to vulnerable areas while ensuring freedom of movement.
