A gambeson, also called a padded jacket or aketon, is almost indispensable for free and exhibition combat. The gambeson was worn under chain mail and plate armor in the late Middle Ages. It increased the comfort of the knight's armor and was also able to absorb enemy blows, thereby reducing the risk of injury.
This Ulfberth gambeson is made with three layers of fabric: an outer layer of cotton fabric (canvas), a polyester padding layer, and an inner cotton lining. The vertical quilting fixes the padding and increases comfort. The gambeson closes with straps that are fastened on the inside and are therefore not visible. The openings at the sleeve hem and at the side seam increase comfort. It can also be worn as a winter jacket. />
