Enjoy Robert the Bruce Helmet, Medieval Saucer with Sea Bream, 1.6mm Steel
Robert the Bruce helmet, medieval saucer, 1.6 mm steel
With brass crown and chain front
The saucer bell, also called kettle bonnet or bascinet , was developed in the early 14th century from the so-called brain bonnet and was in use until the 15th century, widespread throughout Central Europe.
The late medieval plate we offer here is based on the helmet seen at Bannockburn on the famous bronze statue of Robert I of Scotland (1274–1329). In 1314, after years of fighting against the English Crown, King Robert (commonly known as Robert the Bruce or Robert the Bruce ) defeated the army of Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn, a decisive battle that eventually led to the restoration of Scottish independence. Alongside the legendary William Wallace, Robert the Bruce remains one of Scotland's most famous historical figures.
This early 14th-century cymbal is made of 1.6 mm (16-gauge) steel and decorated with a detailed, riveted brass crown. To protect the neck and collar, the helmet has a chain mail guard up to the shoulders. The 4-in-1 chain mail consists of 1.6 mm thick, unriveted round steel rings with an inner diameter of approx. A perforated leather strip, approximately 4 cm wide, is firmly sewn onto the removable helmet. This is attached to the lower edge of the helmet by means of so-called vervelles (small, protruding anchor points or rivets with holes) and secured with a thin leather cord. The helmet can be removed or reattached as desired.
The blackened interior has a fine adjustable leather inlay and the adjustable 3mm thick brown leather chin strap is fitted with an antique brass buckle.
This beautiful and portable helmet is suitable for light combat, reenactment, LARP, stage, or TV/film, and will make your transformation into a proud knight or noble king simply perfect. Of course, it also makes an excellent addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove and makes a beautiful display piece or decorative object for all lovers of Scottish history.
