About this book:
Bannockburn was the climax of King Robert the Bruce's career. In 1307, King Edward I of England, the "Hammer of the Scots" and nemesis of William Wallace, died, and his son, Edward II, was not cast in the same mold. Idle and apathetic, he gave the Scots the opportunity to recover from the painful punishment that had been inflicted upon them. By 1314, Bruce had captured all the major English-controlled castles except Stirling, and Edward II led an army north to subdue the Scots. Pete Armstrong's account of this crucial campaign culminates in the decisive Battle of Bannockburn, which finally won Scotland its independence.
The authors:
Peter Armstrong was educated at Keswick School in Cumbria. After that, he spent time abroad and at sea before earning a degree in Fine Arts at Maidstone College of Art. He worked during the 1970s as an art teacher at a secondary school in Cumbria, during which time his fascination with military history and modeling led him to create his first model soldier. More followed, and eventually a small-scale production line was set up to meet the growing demand. This allowed Pete to leave full-time teaching in the early 1980s to develop his embryonic model-making side business into a full-time career. Pete is the sculptor behind Border Miniatures and his books are the fruit of his many years of experience and research in modeling.
Graham Turner is a leading historical artist, specializing in the medieval period. He has illustrated numerous titles for Osprey, covering a wide variety of subjects, from the dress of the armies of the 10th-century caliphates, through the action of bloody medieval battles, to the daily life of late 18th-century British redcoats. Graham, son of illustrator Michael Turner, lives and works in Buckinghamshire, UK.
