Gothic Armor
DescriptionYour squire fastens the straps of your costume-adapted Gothic armor, adjusting it so that it sits comfortably and snugly over your gambeson. You paid a lot of money for this armor and you hope people are impressed when they see it shine on the battlefield.
Your blacksmith assured you that the Gothic armor design was the latest in technology, capable of resisting and deflecting attacks, even arrows from enemy bows. You are indeed a powerful warrior to possess such refined craftsmanship. A fitting symbol of your divine status.
DETAILS
This best-selling armor set includes a Gothic half-armor, gorget, and armor from Epic Armoury. Protection for shoulders, arms, and legs to fully meet your costume needs at a lower cost. Each piece is made of mild steel with rolled edges and premium leather straps and fittings, designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment while keeping the wearer safe and comfortable. With regular leather and metal armor care, you can expect this armor set to last a long time!
Available in medium/large size.
Half Armor
Armor made for the upper tier of the battlefield. This armor features front and back plates, faulds, and tassets. The Epic Armoury semi-Gothic armor breastplate has a central crease and ridges around the edge. The armor fits tightly to the arms and throat to minimize the number of weak points. The matching breast and back plates extend below the abdomen and connect with the tassets under the protection of the faulds: a series of overlapping modeled metal plates that protect the vulnerable points of the pelvis.
Gorget & Pauldrons
This fully articulated armor is designed to provide protection for the throat, neck, and shoulders while minimizing the exposure of weak points. The armor is a four-piece set: a two-piece gorget and two pauldrons. The gorget covers from the chest to the sternum and is provided with several ridges and two large octagonal besagews (round metal shields) to protect the armpits, notoriously weak points in armor, from arrow attacks. The two parts are joined with premium vegetable-tanned leather straps. The gorget also includes attachments for the pauldrons. The pauldrons consist of articulated plates that cover the shoulder joint and the upper arms, reinforced with large pauldrons sculpted to look like dragon wings to further protect the armpits. The pauldrons are fastened with straps on the gorget and around the upper arms.
Arm Protection
Gothic Arm Protection is a set of steel elbow protectors, or couters, designed to protect the elbow joints. The couters are rounded and feature reinforcing ridges and decorative steel rivets. Around the edge of each cup, a large V-shaped flange deflects blows away from the elbows. A demi-gauntlet protects the upper arm, while a bracer protects the forearm below the couters. Premium leather straps are used to close the bracers, and a third leather strap around the elbow keeps the piece in place.
Leg Protection
Gothic Leg Protection consists of cuisses to protect the lower thighs, articulated poleyns covering the knees, and demi-greaves that protect the upper shins and the sides of the calves. The poleyn kneecaps are articulated, composed of four overlapping plates and equipped with a projecting heart-shaped plate that covers the notoriously unprotected hamstring. This piece of armor is held by straps tied to the user's belt and held in place by guide straps around the thighs and calves.

Maintenance
Epic Armory Metal Works products should be treated with quality wax or acid-free vegetable oil and stored in a dry place. Metal armor containing leather parts would need separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather Straps and Accessories" section below for leather cleaning and maintenance with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. Oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a bit harder to remove all the oil from chainmail links, but it can be done the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to fully submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather pieces when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Moisture is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly oil the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a coat of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Rust prevention and removal
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened with wax or quality acid-free vegetable oil. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and accessories
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then rub gently with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clear away any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe the remaining water off the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
