Forge authenticity into your shield with this
16-gauge steel shield boss (also known as an umbo)
a centerpiece worthy of warriors from every era.
In medieval Europe, a
shield boss (umbo)
was more than just decoration; it was the
heart of the shield
reinforcing the center and providing a deflecting surface in battle. Warriors used it both defensively and offensively, and sometimes even struck with it.
Each piece is
individually hand-forged
giving it a distinctive
hammered texture
that captures the spirit of medieval craftsmanship. The
polished dome
not only has a striking appearance but also helps to
deflect enemy blows
away from the center of the shield and protect the hand underneath.
This boss (umbo) has
six pre-drilled holes
making it easy to mount securely onto any wooden shield. It comes
complete with matching steel rivets
that allow for simple installation without the need for additional accessories.
The inner

is
painted black
both to prevent corrosion and to give the back a clean, professional finish. Despite its solid construction, it weighs only
0.521 kg
ensuring an ideal balance between robustness and maneuverability.
