Treat Yourself to a Hudson Bay Tomahawk
Hudson bay tomahawk
Drop-forged tomahawks
High-quality cold steel® tomahawks are drop-forged from 1055 carbon steel. when producing impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many clear advantages. using multiple dies (hollow molds/dies) attached to massive drop hammers, the steel is formed step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and impact-pressed to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. all cold steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and the hammer striking face are fully hardened to hold an edge, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shocks and impacts. the american tomahawk company® is a registered trademark and a company of cold steel®, inc.
Hudson bay hawk
Almost all of the axes currently on the market have their roots in the hudson bay axe, which was widely used for centuries in the vast forests and swamps of northeastern canada. known for its versatility and high performance, this axe quickly became indispensable for anyone trying to carve a living out of the wilderness. the cold steel® team is also a big fan of this famous axe design and has decided to create a scaled-down version in a tomahawk format. like all other tomahawks in the collection, this one is drop-forged from 1055 carbon steel. it features a classic 9 cm long cutting edge and a generously sized hammer head for striking, crushing, or hammering. and because the hammer head, like the axe blade, is differentially hardened, it is also suitable for driving nails and pins. the handle is made of sturdy, straight-grained hickory wood. this axe is always ready for life in the woods. and in an emergency, it can also serve as a terrifically effective weapon.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very sturdy material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. this steel is ideal for blades that need to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed-blade knives, machetes, and swords.
