Viking Spangenhelm
DescriptionYou are laughing too hard. You realize it must be scaring your enemy, because no one wants to face you on the front line anymore. They think you are crazy. Perhaps you are, because the adrenaline of being in battle has left you drunk on euphoria.
If no one comes to you, it’s time to fight them! A poor soldier attacks you desperately and you feel the blow of his sword against your Viking Spangenhelm, but it barely leaves a scratch. You see the terror in his eyes as your laughter fills the field and you bring the force of your axe down upon him.
You are Raynor Ironshood. Let them fear you. Let everyone fear you.
DETAILS
The Viking Spangenhelm by Epic Armoury is a skull helmet inspired by the Vikings of the Early Middle Ages. With a cotton inlay, a reinforced cap, a 10 cm nose plate, and chainmail, this helmet offers significant protection while being more comfortable and lighter than a full helmet. The chainmail hanging from the back of the helmet protects the ears and neck while still allowing for easy head movement from side to side.
Secure the Viking Spangenhelm by tightening the leather strap under the chin, keeping the helmet in place. Made from 1 mm thick mild steel and premium leather straps and fittings, this piece of armor is designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with the usual care of leather and metal armor.
Available in medium and large sizes.

Maintenance
Epic Armoury metalworks products should be treated with quality acid-free vegetable oil or wax and stored in a dry place. Metal armor that contains leather parts would need separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather straps and accessories" section below for leather cleaning and maintenance with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. The oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a bit harder to remove all the oil from the chainmail links, but it can be done in the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or a heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather parts when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Moisture is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped with a clean cloth. Lightly grease the clean surface with quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a layer of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Prevention and removal of rust
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened with quality acid-free vegetable oil or wax. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and accessories
Clean them by removing dirt with a hard brush, then rub gently with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clean off any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe the remaining water from the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax with a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
