Mercenary Shoulder Armor
DescriptionSome might call you a cruel person. The truth is, you aren't cruel, but you aren't a hero either. The Battle of Delle is not a battle for your homeland or your own people, but the pay is good and the fight is even better.
Life as a mercenary has made you a hardened and effective warrior, and while some call it "luck" when your enemy’s blade slides off your Merc Armor, you call it strategy. After all, now your enemy’s heart is an open target.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury's Pauldrons are a set of two shoulder guards with spaulders. The pauldrons have three ridged metal plates, or lames, overlapping each other to provide laminated protection to the upper arms. The pauldrons are secured with leather straps around the bicep and at the shoulder blade, attaching to a breastplate. Epic Armoury's breast and back plates can be purchased separately and have attachments for mounting the pauldrons.
The mercenary pauldrons are designed to match the Epic Armoury mercenary armor, but can be fully used with other Epic Armoury metal products, giving you the freedom to customize your character's costume. Made from 1mm thick mild steel and premium leather straps and fittings, this piece of armor is designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with regular leather and metal armor care.

Maintenance
Epic Armoury Metal Works products must be treated with quality acid-free vegetable oil or wax and kept in a dry place. Metal armor that contains leather parts would need separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather straps and fittings" section below for cleaning and maintenance of leather with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. Oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a little harder to remove all the oil from chainmail links, but it can be done the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor well. Bright, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather pieces when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Humidity is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly oil the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a coat of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly polish it with a soft cloth.
Prevention and removal of rust
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened with wax or quality acid-free vegetable oil. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and fittings
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then rub gently with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clean off any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe the remaining water from the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Allow the leather to soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
