Kage no senshi tsurugi Tanto, battle swords
With the kage no senshi chokuto proving to be a hit, battle-blades felt it needed something even stealthier, meaner, and different to pair it with, so they made it not one, but two consecutive double-edged short swords from the same era. These double-edged swords are commonly known as tsurugi , which literally translates to blade/sword . This word is most commonly used in japanese for straight, double-edged swords, but also for other foreign swords with the same characteristics.
The tsurugi is one of the first swords that paved the way for Japanese weaponry. Some of the tsurugis discovered on Japanese soil date back to 700 BC. They are mostly of Chinese origin, as straight-bladed swords were not widely used in feudal Japan. Compared to the original tsurugi, with these battle-bladed versions, artistic liberty was taken to create something never seen before while keeping the main components true to the original. For example, the long tsuka often seen on tantos and wakizashis today is too long and holds no historical significance. They wanted to give these swords a short tsuka, like short swords in Japan. This compact tsuka style is also beneficial when the weapon is used with the correct techniques. Since a short, smaller tsuka makes balancing the sword a challenge, Battle-Blades decided to make the Nagako much wider and thicker than usual in order to balance the weapons optimally.
This double-edged T10 steel tanto is forged and polished entirely by hand. The true notary-style hamon gives the sword a harmonious appearance. It was fitted according to the Kage no Senshi shinobi outfit with midnight blue stingray leather and tsuka-ito wrapping. The blade guard is a jet-black, fully custom-made saya with a unique koiguchi shape for easy sheathing.
