Churburg Complete Set
DescriptionTrust in steel. It doesn't need to be sophisticated; leave that to the elves. It doesn't need to be heavy; leave that to the dwarves. This is a lightweight, practical, high-quality steel that will keep you alive in the most intense and dangerous battles.
Your commander's orders to keep your armor in good condition are never far from your mind, and the fact that you are still alive has proven him right dozens of times. Well-fitted, given a good nightly polish, and kept dry whenever possible, you will fall long before your Churburg armor does. Because you trust in the steel, and this steel is the best.
DETAILS
The Epic Armoury polished steel Churburg complete set is a simple, low-fantasy armor set including a breastplate, a backplate, a mail skirt, and spaulders. These riveted steel pieces are made of 1 mm thick mild steel and premium leather straps and fittings, designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with the usual leather and metal armor care.
Available in Medium/Large and X-Large/XX-Large sizes; and in Polished Steel and Epic Dark colors.
Churburg Armor
The Churburg armor is adorned with a wide "V" on the front to deflect attacks away from the head. This armor protects most of the torso, including the ribs and the lower back. Secure this armor with the help of a friend, tightening the leather straps on the back and shoulders. Thanks to the cross-strap leather design, this armor can better adapt to your size while simultaneously dispersing the weight of the armor. It is fully compatible with other Epic Armoury metalwork products, giving you the freedom to customize your character's costume.
Churburg Shoulders
The Churburg shoulders are a set of two simple spaulders. The spaulders feature a solid metal plate, or lame, with a beveled bottom to deflect blows from the arm. The spaulders are fastened with leather straps around the bicep and on the shoulder, attached to your gambeson.
HISTORY
- Loosely based on the Churburg #13 breastplate, a historically famous 14th-century armor.
- Historically inspired by what was considered a “transitional” breastplate, intended to be worn with a large amount of chainmail.
- Our version is much larger than the original, protecting the entire chest.
Quality
- Made of 19 gauge / 1 mm thick mild steel.
- Rolled edges with no sharp edges.
- Straps and fittings made of premium leather.
- Handcrafted welded pieces for maximum durability.
- Polished steel finish.

Maintenance
Epic Armoury Metal Works products should be treated with quality acid-free vegetable wax or oil and kept in a dry place. Metal armor containing leather parts would need separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather straps and accessories" section below for leather cleaning and maintenance with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. The oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a bit harder to remove all the oil from the chainmail links, but it can be done in the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather pieces when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Moisture is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly grease the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a coat of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Oxidation prevention and removal
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened with quality acid-free vegetable wax or oil. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and kept in a dry place.
Leather straps and accessories
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently rub with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clean up any soap residue, and then use a dry cloth to wipe the remaining water off the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax into the leather in circles. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
