A beer for the gods
Hymir, the dark one, belongs to the Jötnar, the Norse giants. He once went out with Thor to catch the Midgard Serpent. Hymir possesses a cauldron so large that Aegir, the Norse god of brewing, can brew enough beer in it to quench the thirst of all the gods. Thor borrowed this cauldron from Hymir and gave it to Aegir.
Wacken Brewery has also borrowed this kettle, and uses its size not to brew a large amount of beer, but to brew a particularly strong beer. Large quantities of the finest barley malt, partially roasted, give this divine drink the power and darkness typical of an imperial stout. It is countered by fine roasted and chocolate aromas, as well as a balanced bitterness.

The stout is a strong, deep black, vegetal, and malty beer whose roots lie in England. It is a variation of the porter, which was the predominant beer style among the English working class in the 18th and 19th centuries. The imperial stout, a strong version of a stout, was first brewed in England in the 18th century as a gift for the Russian Empress Catherine the Great.
