This wearable and fully articulated leg replica of medieval plate armor used in the late Middle Ages is handcrafted from 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and blackened on the inside for better corrosion protection. It protects the thighs, knees, and lower legs.
The greaves consist of cuisses, pointed poleyns (or knee cops), and hinged leg tubes to protect the shins and calves. The necessary freedom of movement is guaranteed by a carriage in which the individual sliding elements are connected to each other by sturdy steel rivets. The upper edge of the cuisses and the lower edge of the greaves are crimped. In addition, the cuisses are equipped with riveted leather pieces with pre-drilled holes on the top edge. On the outside, the knees extend into striking wings approximately 17 cm high and 14 cm wide that curve toward the back of the knee. Three adjustable, riveted leather straps about 2 mm thick and brass buckles allow for an individual size adjustment.
