Purchase Churburg Hourglass Medieval Gauntlets, 1.2 mm Steel and Brass
Churburg hourglass gauntlets, medieval gauntlets, pair, 14th century
1.2 mm steel, brass and leather
In the late Middle Ages and early modern period, gauntlets were an indispensable part of plate armor. They offered protection for the hands and wrists in both hand-to-hand combat and jousting tournaments.
The late medieval fighting gauntlets we offer here as a pair are also known as hourglass gauntlets due to their special shape, similar to that of an hourglass. Very similar gauntlets belong to the famous Churburg plate armor #13. The original full suit of armor, which was likely manufactured in Milan at the end of the 14th century (approx. 1390), can now be admired at the Churburg Armory (Castel Coira) in South Tyrol.
Our Churburg armored gauntlets are handcrafted from 1 to 1.2 mm thick steel (slight variations in steel thickness are possible due to the manual manufacturing process). Just like the original models, they are ingeniously decorated and reinforced with brass plating on the knuckles, wrist, and the lower edge of the cuff. The interior is blackened for better protection against corrosion and lined with sewn-in soft suede gloves.
These fingered gauntlets are characterized not only by their authentic and historically correct appearance but also by their flexible design, which ensures sufficient freedom of movement. The integrated suede gloves, as well as the additional sewn and riveted sturdy leather insoles, ensure great comfort and prevent chafing against the steel plates.
Of course, these freely movable plate gauntlets can also be combined with other medieval knightly armor in addition to the Churburg armor. They are best suited for late medieval settings and are particularly suitable for portraying a 14th-century European warrior or knight. However, please note that this pair of armored gauntlets is not suitable for exhibition combat, but is designed for high-end costume use or as a collector's or display item.
