Delight in the English Falchion, 15th Century.
English hunting sword, 15th century
The original of this English infantry sword or falchion from the late 15th century has been in the Royal Armouries collection since 1916 (object number IX.144). Its exact origins before this time are unknown.
This type of short sword was a popular weapon among foot soldiers and archers during the Wars of the Roses and the early Tudor period. Thousands of swords of this type were used in battles such as Towton, Barnet, Tewkesbury, and Bosworth.
This model has a single-edged blade with smooth transitions in the cross-section, an ingenious hollow grind, and a fuller. The elegant blade features a thin but strong tip and spine that could withstand the rigors of combat against opponents armored with gambesons, chainmail, and plate.
The blade of this replica was handcrafted by an expert blacksmith. It is made of 1080 high-carbon steel, hardened and distally tapered for optimal weight distribution.
The wood-core scabbard is covered in leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass plate. At the throat, the leather covers part of the crossguard.
A certificate of authenticity and a cleaning cloth are included.
