The delivery time for products made to order or personalized may take longer than usual depending on the current workload.

You must send the item or items back to us by your own means. Shipments sent "carriage forward" (cash on delivery for shipping) will not be accepted.

13th-15th Century Medieval Spurs in Lost-Wax Cast Bronze with Leather Straps

These

medieval lost-wax cast bronze spurs

are based on

13th-15th century

designs used by riders, knights, and squires throughout Europe. Forged in an era when riding equipment meant more than utility, spurs were not just a riding aid, but also visible signs of authority and social status.

This pair

is cast in solid bronze using the lost-wax process

to achieve period-appropriate shape and weight. Each spur has a

Y-shaped arm

that wraps around the heel and a turned prick that protrudes from the neck, designed to be effective without harming the mount. Integrated loops at the ends are threaded with genuine leather straps, included for immediate use.

Historical Background

This type of spur was widely used in the medieval period, before more articulated rowel spurs became the norm. Their pointed necks allowed for subtle control during travel or battle. In the tradition of chivalry, spurs were granted as a symbol of status and readiness, and having them removed could be considered an act of dishonor.

Craftsmanship Note - Lost-Wax Casting

Each spur is manufactured using the

lost-wax method

(

cire perdue

), an ancient casting technique known since antiquity and practiced throughout the medieval period.

The lost-wax casting process begins with a detailed wax model, carefully sculpted by hand. This model is then placed into a mold, typically made of clay or plaster. Once the mold hardens, the wax is melted and drained, leaving behind a precise hollow cavity.

The molten bronze

is poured into this space. Once cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the rough casting. The piece is then cleaned and final details are polished by hand. This traditional method allows the piece to be shaped with great precision and historical fidelity, far beyond what modern casting machines can achieve.
