Battle-worn Viking sword
DescriptionKUERNBUT OR FOTBITR?
Is your sword lucky, noble or bloodthirsty, or perhaps even treacherous? It is, if it has inherited any skill or personality from previous owners or makers. Perhaps it even has a name like “Stonebreaker” or “Footbiter.” The battle-worn Viking sword is a status weapon and a family heirloom, and much like the legendary sword "Skraep," which was unearthed completely rusted in the legend of how King Vermund’s son saves Denmark from the Saxons, it may appear to be in poor condition judging by its appearance. That is not the case.
This 85 cm sword has a 65 cm fulled blade designed to be lightweight while maintaining its structural stability. The crossguard features an intricate serpent-shaped ornament. The handle is detailed and measures 10 cm long; it is molded and painted to look like realistic leather wrapped around a carved hilt and pommel. Unique effects of painted and sculpted details, such as rust stains, nicks, and scratches.
Whether you are an epic Viking, a wild berserker, or an evil humanoid ice creature from the north, this Viking sword is our highest-quality gear due to its impressive durability and stunning weathered details. The blade is made of closed-cell foam around a fiberglass core and finished with a strong latex coating, while the handle is made of polyurethane foam, which allows for more detail and is maintenance-free. This hybrid sword model will make you trust in the safety and appeal of your weapon on the battlefield.
HISTORY
- Originally a Frankish design
- Most swords of this design found in Scandinavia were imported or looted from the Frankish Empire
- A fuller, or groove running the length of the blade, was added to weapons to lighten the blade and add structural strength
Quality
- The blade has a strong latex coating with a round fiberglass core
- Strong Kevlar core tip protection
- The blade is made of durable, non-shredding closed-cell foam
- The handle is made of polyurethane foam, providing more detail without the need for maintenance
- The handle is highly durable, will outlast a latex version, and is less slippery than a silicone-treated alternative
- The handle is wrapped in leather for comfort and requires some maintenance
- High safety, approved by major organizations

Maintenance
The polyurethane handle of this hybrid weapon requires no special maintenance. The leather wrapped around the grip requires care.
Leather grip care
Natural leather products are very durable, but require regular maintenance with leather care products to remain supple and increase their lifespan. Ensure your leather products are kept dry when stored. Allow wet leather to dry naturally before treating it. If it gets wet and dries frequently, increase the frequency of maintenance.
Cleaning
Clean by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently rub leather soap with a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clean off any soap residue, and then use a dry cloth to wipe any remaining water off the leather.
Conditioning
You should always condition the leather after cleaning, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax into the leather in circles. Allow the leather to soak in the oil before wiping it with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
Latex blade care
The blade of this LARP weapon has a latex coating that needs a certain degree of maintenance. For this, we recommend using maintenance silicone, which can be purchased separately in the LARP Accessories section. Epic Armoury maintenance silicone is an easy-to-apply spray, 100% pure and acid-free, making it safe to apply. We recommend using Maintenance Silicone on a regular basis, taking care not to apply the spray to the handle by wrapping it in cling film first. It maintains the flexibility of the latex layer and prevents it from drying out, keeping the product resistant to wear and tear.
Storage
Store your weapon horizontally or on its pommel, NEVER on its tip. Use a simple bedsheet or towel lining to prevent it from touching a plastic or rubber surface to avoid your weapon sticking to other products. Keep your weapon in a cool, dry environment.
