Russian-Viking Decorative Sword Petersen Type E2 Category B - Replica of the Gnezdovo Find, 10th Century
A one-handed medieval Viking sword based on the archaeological find from tomb L-13 in Gnezdovo (Smolensk, Russia), dated between 920 and 950 AD.
In 1949, during the excavation of barrow L-13 at the Gnezdovo archaeological complex near Smolensk, Russia, an exceptional Viking sword was discovered broken into two pieces and stuck into the ground. Dated between 920 and 950 AD and classified as type E2 according to the Petersen typology, its blade featured a stylized depiction of a man and a spiral framed by two crosses. But what made it truly unique was its hilt with cellular ornamentation: a crossguard and pommel decorated with round recesses in lines, connected by grooves with twisted wires forming a lattice pattern. This historical sword reproduces every detail of the original as faithfully as possible. A unique opportunity to buy medieval Viking swords with documented archaeological provenance.
