Enjoy Medieval One-Handed Sword with Cross, Steel
One-handed medieval sword made of steel
The carbon steel blade of this beautiful sword is forged to the pommel and double-bolted at the handle end. The handle has a stitched leather wrap. Our medieval one-handed sword is characterized by the straight guard, which gives the sword its typical cross shape. The cross as a symbol is also reflected in our sword in the cross-shaped recesses at both ends of the crossguard. The blade is unsharpened.
Medieval one-handed swords, the so-called knightly swords, were very popular among the sword-wielding nobility in the High and Late Middle Ages. They developed from the spatha in the 10th century, although the Viking sword can be seen as a transitional form. The crossguard of the medieval one-handed sword is longer than that of early medieval examples, while the blade is somewhat narrower and more pointed.
One-handed swords with straight blades from the High and Late Middle Ages are also colloquially called knightly swords. This is largely due to the fact that medieval knights were often depicted with a one-handed sword and a shield or buckler. Examples of this can be found in the Codex Manesse or the Sachsenspiegel .
The medieval one-handed sword was the knight's close combat weapon and, depending on its characteristics, could be used as a slashing or piercing weapon. Until the mid-14th century, one-handed swords were wider and had a sharper blade, as they were used more as slashing weapons against light mail armor. When plate armor came into use, one-handed swords narrowed toward the tip (the sword point) and were used as piercing weapons. One-handed swords were also used on horseback if the polearm broke during battle, was lost, or became unwieldy in the heat of battle.
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
