Gift Longsword With Protective Ring, 15th Century, Scabbard Included
Longsword with guard, 15th century, scabbard included
This budget-friendly two-handed sword is a beautiful example of a longsword from the late European Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Although the sword is not an exact replica of a historical original, it features some of the typical characteristics of the two-handed knightly swords wielded by Gothic knights in full armor in the 15th century.
This type of longsword is distinguished from other swords of the era by the side rings placed on each side of the guards (which eventually led to the development of more complex hilt designs). On medieval battlefields and in tournaments, these rings offered better protection for the hands without significantly increasing the overall weight of the weapon.
In the medieval sword offered here, the long, wide, double-edged blade tapers only slightly towards the tip. It is forged from EN45 spring steel and features several grooves on each side (a main fuller between two short decorative grooves, a feature found in many Oakeshott Type XX swords). The cutting edges are not sharpened and the full-tang blade is screwed to the end of the handle.
The cruciform hilt has a generous scent-stopper pommel and a slightly down-curved guard approximately 19 cm long with D-shaped protective rings, all made of steel. The grip consists of a wooden core covered in leather and steel: while the first half, adjacent to the guard, is covered in black leather, the remaining part of the handle is wrapped with twisted steel wire.
This late medieval two-handed knightly sword comes with a black wood/leather scabbard with a steel locket, chape, central band, and movable suspension rings.
This two-handed sword is designed as a collector's piece or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
