In the tumultuous heart of Renaissance battlefields, when formations broke and the enemy surged forward, the fearsome German Landsknechte played their final card: the Katzbalger, a short, robust, and agile sword. This faithful 15th-16th century replica revives that fierce spirit, designed for light exhibition combat and intended for the steady hand of the reenactor and the history enthusiast.
With its iconic "S"-shaped guard, wide blade, and fishtail pommel, this sword embodies the essence of the infantry warrior. Some say its name comes from the use of cat leather on its grip or scabbard; others, that it alludes to the German verb katzbalgen, meaning to fight and scuffle. Whatever its origin, this blade was a symbol of survival and defiance.
The Blade of the Renaissance Fighters
Forged from EN45 spring steel, this sword features a 76 cm blade with three longitudinal fullers, a rounded tip, and a 2-3 mm impact edge, meeting the requirements for category C combat. While it does not guarantee resistance to extreme impacts, it is perfect for stage fencing, light training, and safe historical reenactment.
A Piece of Art and Functionality
The solid wood handle, together with the steel pommel and forged handguard, provides a firm and balanced grip. It is accompanied by a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard, the color of which may vary, adding an authentic and unique touch to each piece.
