Langeid Viking Sword Category B with Scabbard - Replica of the 2011 Find, 11th Century, Norway
A unique Nordic medieval sword, discovered in 2011 in Langeid (Norway) and preserved at the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo
In 2011, during the excavation of a Viking cemetery in Langeid (Setesdal Valley, Bygland, Norway), an extraordinarily well-preserved sword made of iron, gold, and silver was discovered in grave number 8. Dated to around the year 1030—a moment marking the end of Nordic paganism and the beginning of the Christian Middle Ages in Scandinavia—its guard and pommel are lavishly decorated with spirals, runes, Latin letters, and crosses, conveying clear Christian symbolism. Some experts believe it was brought from England and may have been the prestige weapon of one of the warriors of King Cnut the Great. Today, it can be admired at the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo. A unique opportunity to buy medieval Viking swords with documented archaeological provenance and exceptional historical context.
