Gift the British Cavalry Sword, Model 1908, with Metal Scabbard.
1908 British Cavalry Sword with scabbard
The 1908 cavalry sword was the last service sword issued as standard equipment to British Army cavalry troops, at a time when mounted charges had become obsolete and swords were rarely used as combat weapons. However, it was widely considered the best cavalry sword ever designed and was still in use during World War I.
The 1908 model and the more sophisticated 1912 officer's model are still used today as ceremonial swords by British, Australian, and Canadian cavalry regiments.
Although this light thrusting sword was capable of delivering effective blows, it was clearly designed primarily for stabbing on horseback and was said to be able to reach the range of a lance when held with the arm fully extended. The long, narrow, and rigid blade had a strong T-shaped spine and a spear-like point that was sharpened on both sides to facilitate both thrusting and cutting.
The simple, cup-shaped guard of generous dimensions provided excellent hand protection, and the large pommel helped balance the blade without compromising the sword's lightness, speed, and maneuverability. Furthermore, the ergonomic pistol-grip handle with a thumb recess and diamond structure ensured a good grip and control, and automatically placed the point in the correct position for the strike.
In addition, the sword could be attached to the saddle, a belt, or a shoulder strap, making it easy to carry.
The beautiful and affordable replica we offer here has a single-edged straight blade made of EN45 spring steel, which is grooved for about two-thirds of its length. The unsharpened edge is approximately 1 mm thick. The guard and pommel are made of steel, and the grip is made of hard molded plastic to imitate the rubber or Bakelite grips of the original models.
The cavalry sword is delivered with a blackened all-steel scabbard with two carrying rings.
This sword is designed as a collector's piece or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example, to complete your costume.
