Vendel Period Sword with Scabbard - Uppsala Burial Find, 7th-8th Centuries
A pre-Viking Age Scandinavian sword, based on a ship burial find in Uppsala (Sweden), dating to the 7th-8th centuries
The Vendel Period (6th-8th centuries) is the stage of Swedish history between the Great Migration Period and the beginning of the Viking Age, characterized by craftsmanship of extraordinary quality. This historical sword is a reconstruction of a richly decorated ship burial find from a burial site near Uppsala, Sweden, dating to the 7th-8th centuries. Due to its magnificent decoration, it is believed to have been the ceremonial or prestige weapon of a Swedish tribal chief, noble, or elite warrior. The hilt reproduces the motifs of the original as faithfully as possible: antique-finished brass pommel, pewter details, and a top pommel cap with red enamel inlays that evoke authentic garnets. A unique opportunity to buy medieval swords from the Scandinavian pre-Viking period with documented archaeological basis.
