This two-handed sword is an interpretation of one of the silver swords from the popular “The Witcher” franchise. In the game by development studio CD Projekt Red, the Witcher Geralt of Rivia always carries two types of swords with him: a steel sword, which he uses in battle against human and animal opponents, and a silver sword, which the monster hunter uses to fight against the various monsters.
The most striking element of this sword is probably the decorative element on the crossguard, which is based on Renfri's brooch from the first episode of "The Witcher" series adaptation.
Background of the brooch based on the series adaptation
The wizard Stregobor tried to hire Geralt to kill Renfri because he believed she was under the curse of the Black Sun and therefore posed a danger to the entire continent.
Renfri, in turn, sought revenge against Stregobor because his actions forced her to leave her former life. She gathered a band of thieves around her and planned to blackmail the wizard with a bloodbath among the villagers of Blaviken and thus lure him out of his tower.
When Geralt tried to dissuade Renfri and her entourage from their plan, a fight broke out between them, from which Geralt emerged as the sole survivor. He took Renfri's brooch and placed it on his sword as a reminder not to interfere in people's conflicts. As a result of these events, Geralt became known as the “Butcher of Blaviken”.
The fuller of this magnificent blade, made of 420 carbon steel, is decorated with gold letters on both sides. At the base of the blade, the aforementioned decorative element smiles at you, which merges with the guard and is made of die-cast zinc. Above it is the approximately 15 cm long handle decorated with a diamond pattern. The set is completed with a decorated stop pommel, also made of die-cast zinc. When resting in its synthetic leather-covered scabbard, this sword is approximately 117.5 cm long in total and weighs approximately 1.75 kg.
