Neuchâtel knight's sword with scabbard, 13th century
This decorative one-handed sword is a replica of a remarkably well-preserved archaeological find from the late 13th century, which was recovered from Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland. The original is currently located at the Landesmuseum Zurich (inventory number IN 6982).
The original sword, classified as an Oakeshott Type, has fullers on both sides for approximately two-thirds of its length. The most striking feature of the sword is the enigmatic inscription n n s d, engraved in the fuller: although there is still speculation about the meaning of this sequence of letters framed by two cross pattée, experts tend to assume that the letters represent an abbreviation of a prayer or an invocation to God, possibly in nomine sancti domini (in the name of the holy lord), in nomine sancti dei (in the name of the holy god), or in nomine salvatoris domini (in the name of the savior and lord).
The one-handed sword offered here is a faithful replica of this beautiful piece of medieval history. The engravings in the wide fuller of the double-edged EN45 spring steel blade are as faithful a replica as possible of the drawings that adorn the original. The edges are not sharpened and the full tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The hilt consists of a crossguard slightly curved downwards, a sturdy disc pommel, and a grip with a wooden core, which is tightly wrapped with a thin blue leather strap. The guard and pommel are made of solid steel.
This medieval knight's sword comes with a blue wood/leather scabbard with two adjustable-length carrying straps made of black leather and brass buckles with an antique finish.
This medieval sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object. It is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will simply make your transformation into a proud knight perfect.
