The large Viking shield we offer here is suitable for reenactment, light combat, or sparring.
The battle-ready round shield consists of 3 layers of MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and is covered on the front with a durable, natural-colored canvas. The fabric has been left unpainted to give you the opportunity to customize the shield with your own colors or motifs if you wish. With a little practical knowledge and skill, you will be able to transform this blank shield into an authentic Viking-era shield.
The edge of the shield is covered with rawhide, which is considered more impact-resistant and durable than tanned leather. It absorbs impacts and shocks significantly better and will therefore extend the life of the shield.
The generously designed shield boss offers enough space even for strong Viking hands and is firmly attached with four nails.
On the back, the wooden shield is equipped with three nailed pine reinforcement slats. The center bar also serves as a fist grip and is rounded at the shield hole level for a comfortable hold.
