Norman Shield

Description

An ancient kite shield

The blue/white Norman Shield by Epic Armoury is a kite shield inspired by the Norman soldiers of the early 11th century, used during the Norman conquest of England. Also called a kite shield, this 115 cm long shield is rounded at the top and tapers towards the bottom, perfect for both mounted cavalry and foot soldiers. This Live Action Role Play (LARP) safe shield is carved from EVA foam and coated with a durable latex layer, and is designed to look like real wooden slats adorned with a strip of real leather. There is a boss on the front, as would have been common during the time of the First Crusade.

The Norman Shield has been hand-painted with a blue and white tribal design, faded and weathered for the battlefield. Attach this shield to your left or right arm thanks to the six adjustable leather straps on the back. This is a great alternative to the punch grip, specifically used to compensate for the unique shape of the kite shield. Keep your shield in excellent condition with regular latex maintenance.

A piece of Norman warfare

This shield is considered a "kite shield'
The round-topped kite shield was popular in Europe during the 11th century and later spread to the Middle East due to the First Crusade.
The shape of this shield would have been ideal for mounted cavalry to protect their left leg, as well as their shoulder and torso
Associated with the Normans, who were the first to widely use this style of shield
Made of laminated wood, stretched animal hide, and iron
The shield boss, the round, convex piece of material in the center of the shield, was used to deflect blows

Quality

Strong latex coating over hard EVA foam, which does not flex in combat
Made of durable closed-cell foam that does not shred
The handle is made of EVA foam and two adjustable leather straps for a firm grip
High safety, approved by major organizations

This product is handmade and hand-painted and is therefore unique. As a result, when compared to similar item numbers, this product may have natural deviations in pattern, color, and shape, which are not considered defects or faults.

Maintenance

All latex-coated products need a certain degree of maintenance. For this, we recommend using maintenance silicone, which can be purchased separately in the LARP Accessories section. Epic Armoury Maintenance Silicone is an easy-to-apply spray, 100% pure and acid-free, making it safe to apply. We recommend using Maintenance Silicone on a regular basis. It maintains the flexibility of the latex layer and prevents it from drying out, keeping the product resistant to wear and tear.

Store your latex shield in a cool, dry environment. Use a simple sheet or towel to keep it from touching a plastic or rubber surface to prevent your shield from sticking to other products.
