Delight in Drinking Horn With Stand - Yggdrasil
Drinking horn with stand
Yggdrasil, the world ash
The drinking horn, generally made of cattle or goat horn, was a popular drinking vessel in many cultures and eras and was particularly important in ceremonies. It remained in use until the early modern period, especially in the Germanic areas of Europe. It was especially popular in Scandinavia in the early Middle Ages. The drinking horn is mentioned in both the Prose Edda and the Poetic Edda. Although horn fragments from the Viking Age are rarely found in archaeological excavations, the number of preserved metal fittings for drinking horns suggests that their use was much more widespread than the actual horn finds suggest.
The drinking horn offered here is handmade from cattle horn, polished and decorated with an engraved motif of Yggdrasil, the world tree or tree of life. In Norse mythology, the evergreen ash Yggdrasil is the world axis that connects the upper world, the earth, and the underworld. As the embodiment of the entire cosmos or all of creation, this sacred tree is a symbol of knowledge, life, decay, renewal, and, ultimately, immortality.
Whether in the modern home or for recreating a medieval or Viking setting, this rustic and highly decorative vessel will be an eye-catcher on any dining table.
For hygienic reasons, the inside of the horn is coated to be food-safe, so you can enjoy your favorite drink to the fullest.
The delivery includes a practical drinking horn stand, easy to carry, made of hand-forged steel and with a simple principle: if the horn is inserted through the opening, the legs of the stand and the tip of the horn form a stable tripod. This means you can always set your drinking horn down safely.
A great gift idea for the Viking of today!
