Swedish forest fixed blade knife with black micarta handle, casström
This robust full-tang knife is for a wide range of uses in hunting, fishing, and for classic bushcraft tasks in the forest or outdoors. it is extremely sturdy and equally ideal for skinning game, filleting fish, or woodworking. the blade is approximately 10 cm long and is made of approximately 3.5 mm thick sandvik 14c28n, a Swedish stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 58-59 hrc, developed especially for knives. it is very sharp, completely flat, and has a satin finish. the combination of steel and grind results in a knife that cuts effortlessly, performs excellently in all kinds of different tasks, and has good edge retention, yet can still be easily re-sharpened. due to the reduced angle and the thinness behind the edge, the type of grind selected here is not suitable for so-called "batoning" or "prying," but is instead designed for efficient cutting.
The handle is made of black micarta (a composite of linen and epoxy resin) and is therefore insensitive to moisture, resistant to cracks and shocks. brown liners have been installed between the handle scales and the steel to increase the lifespan of the knife.
The knife is delivered with a durable black sheath made of 3 mm thick vegetable-tanned leather. the sheath has an extra-wide belt loop, a drain hole, and an eyelet to accommodate a leg strap.
Information about the steel: 14c28n is the latest development from sandvik's famous knife steel collection. its optimized composition results in a unique combination of excellent properties in terms of edge retention (stability, sharpness, and edge holding), hardness, and corrosion resistance. because this steel can be heat-treated, even better wear resistance can be achieved compared to previous steel grades without affecting the microstructure. therefore, the blade is relatively easy to sharpen, but at the same time has excellent edge resistance in case of chips, nicks, and bent edges (so-called edge rolling).
