Swedish forest fixed blade knife with a curly birch handle and matching fire steel, Casström
This wonderful knife is designed as an all-purpose knife for hunting and classic bushcraft or general outdoor tasks. Use what nature designed. The blade is approximately 10 cm long and is made of approximately 3.8 mm thick Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel, a Swedish knife steel that has been heat-treated and hardened to a Rockwell hardness of 57-59 HRC. This sharp blade features a Scandinavian grind and a satin finish. The combination of steel and grind results in a very stable knife that maintains a high level of sharpness and can be easily resharpened.
The handle is made of curly birch. The wood has been treated with a traditional Scandinavian linseed oil-based varnish. Black liners were installed between the handle scales and the steel to increase the life of the knife.
The knife is delivered with a durable, welded sheath made of 3 mm thick vegetable-tanned full-grain cowhide in cognac brown. The sheath features an extra-wide belt loop, a drainage hole, an eyelet for attaching a lanyard, and, on this particular model, a firesteel holder that houses a firesteel with a visually coordinated handle.
Information about the steel: 14C28N is the latest development in Sandvik's famous knife steel collection. Its optimized composition results in a unique combination of excellent properties in terms of edge retention (stability, sharpness, and edge-holding), hardness, and corrosion resistance. Because this steel can be heat-treated, even better wear resistance can be achieved compared to previous steel grades without affecting the microstructure. Therefore, the blade is relatively easy to sharpen but at the same time has excellent edge resistance against chipping, nicks, and rolled edges (so-called edge rolling).
