Chainmail - Long Sleeve - Riveted
DescriptionThe battle has lasted for three long days and the blood of both sides reaches your knees. You are exhausted and not sure how much longer you can hold out when you see a break in the front lines. The enemy is making one last desperate push.
You are caught in front of their wave and you feel the terrible force of an enemy sword cutting into your stomach. Your Chainmail prevents the blade from cutting, giving you time to defend yourself and kill your enemy.
DETAILS
Epic Armoury's Chainmail shirt is a flexible chainmail armor shirt made of linked and riveted blackened steel rings. The chainmail covers the body from shoulder to waist and has long sleeves that protect the arms down to the wrists. Each ring is interlocked with four other rings in a 4-in-1 design and is also riveted to cope with additional stress. The construction of this shirt is designed to last a long time, but adds a significant weight of 2.66 kg.
Wear this chainmail by sliding it down over your head like a shirt, keeping it in place over your gambeson with a belt. Made from 1.6mm blackened steel treated to prevent rust, this piece of armor is designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with the usual care given to leather and metal armor.
Available in large and extra-large sizes.

Maintenance
Epic Armoury metalwork products should be treated with quality acid-free vegetable oil or wax and stored in a dry place. Metal armor containing leather parts would require separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather straps and accessories" section below for leather cleaning and maintenance with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you may be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. Oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a bit more difficult to remove all the oil from chainmail links, but it can be done in the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather parts when using a heat gun.
Please note that armor should not be washed with water. This can significantly increase the level of rust and corrosion your armor suffers.
Cleaning
Humidity is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly grease the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a layer of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Rust prevention and removal
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened in quality acid-free vegetable oil or wax. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and accessories
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently rub with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clean off any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe any remaining water from the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning it, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles into the leather. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
