- Very authentic and fully suitable for exhibition combat -
This high-quality hand-knotted chainmail is a so-called hauberk. This means it is a long-sleeved, knee-length chainmail shirt. Such a powerful piece of chainmail covered most of the body. This historically authentic cut was often expanded with front or side slits to provide the wearer with greater leg room. This means that these long hauberks can be worn comfortably even by horsemen.
Our hauberk generally has no slits, so the customer can tailor it individually if necessary. Additionally, it has tapered sleeves that narrow by about one ring every 5 cm.
The RM chainmail is made of rings with a diameter of only 6 mm. Following original templates, it consists of one row of riveted rings (round rivet heads) and one row of punched rings. Due to the extremely small diameter of the rings, such chainmail could be manufactured then and now from steel with a material thickness of only 1 mm without losing its strength. This results in a weight reduction of approximately 30 - 35%. We abbreviate this type of weave as RM (English = roman maille) because it was already very popular among the Celts and Romans (hamata). This ring armor weave was in use until the end of the Middle Ages.
