This new volume chronicles the events that culminated on the field of austerlitz in one of the most famous battles in history. not only was it the first campaign that napoleon undertook as emperor of france, but also the first great test for his grande armée. the emperor himself considered it his greatest victory and, without a doubt, it earned him a dominance of europe that would remain intact for nearly a decade. until now, most accounts of the campaign have been based almost exclusively on french sources, but after extensive research in the austrian archives, ian castle is now able to provide a much more balanced account of austerlitz.
the authors:
Ian castle is a founding member of the napoleonic association and is still very involved in its activities both in great britain and continental europe. in addition, he served for many years on the council of the victorian military society and is currently a consultant to the anglo-zulu war historical society, involved in the archaeological project working on the battlefields of the zulu war. ian began writing over ten years ago and, in addition to contributing numerous articles to military magazines, he has written ten books, five of which belong to the osprey campaign series.
