Scout Torso Armor
DescriptionYou have tried many types of armor, but none seemed to work for you. Your torso was either too big or too small; or you couldn't bend, or there wasn't enough protection. That was until the blacksmith finally made you the Scout Torso Armor.
This armor is perfect. It still offers solid metal protection for your heart and spine, and you can bend and crouch while you explore—an important element when trying to hide from enemies. You wish you had found it sooner!
DETAILS
The Scouts Torso armor by Epic Armoury is a simple low-fantasy breastplate and backplate that protects the upper torso. The plates reach down to the waist, allowing for greater flexibility compared to a traditional cuirass. Both the front and back plates are made of 1 mm thick mild steel and are secured with premium leather straps on the shoulders and around the ribs.
Sculpted to fit the body and add structural strength to the steel, this riveted steel piece has been polished to a high-shine finish to attract knights in shining armor. The Scouts Torso armor has a neutral style. Wear it alone or with pauldrons and a helmet of your choice. We definitely recommend a gambeson! We also offer this style in various sizes to help accommodate different body types, and it is designed to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with the usual care for leather and metal armor.
Available in sizes Small/Medium, Large/X-Large, and 2XL/3XL.

Maintenance
Epic Armoury metalwork products should be treated with quality acid-free wax or vegetable oil and stored in a dry place. Metal armor containing leather parts would require separate maintenance for the leather. Read the "Leather straps and fittings" section below to learn about leather cleaning and maintenance with leather care products.
Degreasing and preparing your armor for use
When you open your armor, you might be overwhelmed by the smell of grease and oil. Oil has been applied to protect your armor during storage and transport. Use a degreasing product or mineral spirits and a dry cloth or paper towels to remove all oil from the plate armor pieces. It is a bit harder to remove all the oil from chainmail links, but it can be done in the same way. Wipe off as much as you can with a dry cloth, and with the remaining oil, you can remove the grease from the chainmail with mineral spirits or another solvent by spraying it onto the links. You can also choose to completely submerge your chainmail in a degreasing product and use your hands to agitate the metal in the solution; this will completely remove all oil and grease from your links. After removing the oil, be sure to dry the armor thoroughly. Strong, warm sunlight is great for drying your armor, but you can also use a hairdryer or a heat gun to speed up the process. Be careful not to overheat any leather parts when using a heat gun.
Cleaning
Humidity is the enemy of armor and chainmail. If your armor gets wet, it is important to dry it thoroughly as soon as possible. After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped down with a clean cloth. Lightly grease the clean surface with a quality acid-free vegetable oil. Alternatively, you can apply a layer of wax to the entire surface of the exposed metal. Let the wax dry for a couple of hours and then lightly buff it with a soft cloth.
Preventing and removing rust
Store your armor in a dry place and check it every two months for signs of rust. If you find any, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a lightly abrasive pad dampened with wax or quality acid-free vegetable oil. Epic Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but they should still be treated with oil and stored in a dry place.
Leather straps and fittings
Clean them by removing dirt with a stiff brush, then gently rub with leather soap and a clean, damp cloth until the leather looks clean. Remove the soap with a separate damp cloth to clear any soap residue, then use a dry cloth to wipe the remaining water from the leather.
You should always condition the leather after cleaning, as the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax using a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or wax in circles onto the leather. Let the leather soak in the oil before wiping it down with a final clean cloth to remove excess residue.
