1st-2nd Century Roman Brass Cloak Pin Brooch for Historical Garments
This
Roman brass brooch
is a faithful reproduction of a fibula brooch used throughout the
1st and 2nd centuries AD
in the provinces of the Roman Empire. More than just a utilitarian fastener, a brooch like this was part of a Roman's visible identity.
Roman's visible identity
- they were used to secure cloaks at the shoulder or chest, while also serving as status symbols.
The brooch features a
solid arched frame
with
symmetrical discs
symmetrical, each engraved with radial lines and surrounded by openwork scrolls. At the top, a
hinge with a finial
with a subtle ridge, which holds the long central pin. The reverse is cast cleanly and flat, retaining the classic one-piece shape seen in museum examples from Roman Britain, Gaul, and the Danube frontier.
Constructed in
solid brass
using traditional casting techniques, this pin has both the
weight and presence
of authentic Roman hardware. It is fully functional and can securely fasten heavier garments such as a sagum or a wool mantle, making it ideal for
Roman legionary kits
or for collectors of early European artifacts.
