Legendary swords in The Lord of the Rings films

    Sting: small, but tough

Sting , the Elvish-style short sword carried by Frodo (and Bilbo before him), may look like a hobbit pocket knife... until you see it flash blue at the orcs! Bilbo finds it in the trolls' cave and later gives it to Frodo in Rivendell. It has the magical ability to warn of enemies with its distinctive blue glow. In filming, Sting was designed by Weta Workshop, and while it appears to be made of steel, many of the versions used were lightweight replicas for action scenes. Interestingly, Frodo ends up giving it to Merry before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

    Glamdring: Gandalf's sword

Gandalf wields the imposing Glamdring , known as the “Hammer of Foes.” It is an ancient Elven sword forged in Gondolin, and although it was found alongside Sting in the same troll cave, its history goes back even further. Unlike Sting, it does not shine in the presence of orcs in the films, an intentional decision by the filmmakers to give more prominence to Frodo’s sword. Glamdring features Elven engravings on the hilt and a sober, majestic aesthetic. It was forged by the master craftsmen of Weta and designed with a noble air, perfect for a wizard like Gandalf.

This Glamdring is great! Don't miss it!

Andúril: The Flame of the West

When Aragorn accepts his lineage, he also agrees to wield Andúril , the sword forged from the shards of Narsil. It is a symbol of the return of the king and one of the most iconic swords in the entire trilogy. We first see it rebuilt in Rivendell, with Elvish inscriptions and an almost solemn gleam. Aragorn carries it to the Battle of Minas Tirith and against Sauron at the Black Gate. Its design was based on concept art by renowned artists and executed with great attention to detail by the production team's craftsmen. Although it appears heavy, many of the versions used were light and maneuverable.

    Hadhafang: Arwen's Elegant Edge

Arwen, although less present on the battlefield, also has her own distinguished sword: Hadhafang , which in Elvish means "Blade of Multitudes." In the films, we see her using it when she defends Frodo during his escape from the Nazgûl. It is said to have belonged to her Elven ancestors and later passed down to her. The blade has a curved, elegant design, with Elvish engravings that make it one of the most beautiful swords in the saga. Although it doesn't receive as much attention as the previous swords, fans remember it for its aesthetics and for the heroic moments in which Arwen wields it.

    This Hadhafang is incredible!

These swords not only tell stories within Tolkien's world, but also behind the scenes, where a team of designers and swordsmiths transformed fantastical ideas into legendary objects. It's no wonder they are now coveted treasures by collectors and fans alike.Don't miss our available swords!
