The heavy canvas fabric makes the medieval dress robust and substantial, making it particularly suitable for spring and autumn. The hem, armholes, and neckline are covered with a fine cotton fabric. The armholes are very generously cut and end at the hip. \u003cem\u003eWedge\u003c\/em\u003e -shaped pieces of fabric are inserted at the sides from the hip, giving the hem sufficient width. This overcoat is an authentic reconstruction of a 14th-century overcoat and was worn by women of the lower classes.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThe surcoat, originally worn by men, was a long dress for women that was popular from the 13th century. As the name suggests, it was worn over the hut. To give the skirt sufficient width, it was common to use wedges of fabric at the sides. A special form was the sleeveless surcoat (also called \u003cem\u003ea suckenie\u003c\/em\u003e ), which was very popular among women of all social classes. At first, the armholes were cut normally, but over time they widened and eventually reached the hips.
