Nothing precise can be said about the actual use of these tents. It is not entirely clear whether they were actually used outdoors or simply set up for the Althing. Another theory suggests that they were tents. The word "krämer" is derived from the Old High German " cram ," meaning tent. Consequently, they were used at markets in natural harbors.

Since the size of the original finds would be a logistical challenge for most of us, we built them a little smaller and therefore more manageable.
The Viking tent, measuring 3.0 x 2.7 x 2 m, can accommodate up to three people with luggage; the smaller version, measuring 2.0 x 2.3 x 1.8 m, can accommodate two people; space.

Please note that the tent is delivered without a frame !

Our tents and storage tarps are pre-impregnated and therefore water-repellent. The tents are handmade, which makes them look as authentic as possible, but also involves one or two small errors. Cotton is a natural material that behaves differently in different external conditions; it can contract or stretch very strongly. Do not try to stretch the tent skin very tightly. This increases the risk of tearing or the seams opening.

Important information about the assembly, handling and care of our historic tents

So that you can enjoy your Viking tent , Roman tent , Saxon tent , knight's tent , medieval tent for a long time, if you have a medieval tent or market stall , the following tips will be of great help:

Don't overtighten the ropes, because natural materials like wood and cotton change with humidity and need space to expand or contract. This prevents, for example, the openings for roof poles from widening and water from penetrating later. At night, we recommend loosening the ropes slightly, as humidity increases significantly and there's a chance of putting too much pressure on the tent. If it's raining or humid, loosen the ropes slightly. After use, be sure to dry the tent if it has become damp; otherwise, there's a risk of mold growth. Under no circumstances should you use chemicals or other cleaning products to clean your tent. It's best to remove dried dirt with a brush. If you want to store it for a longer period, separate all elements (pegs, ropes, etc.) from the tent fabric and, ideally, pack everything separately. Make sure all parts are dry and stored in a dry place.

Do you have any questions about how to set up or use your tent properly?
