Initially a derisive neologism, briquet eventually became the official name for this special type of sabre. During the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, briquettes were not only an effective weapon in close combat, but also a practical tool with which to clear bushes, for example.

I drink champagne when I win to celebrate... and I drink champagne when I lose to console myself. (Napoleon I)

The tradition known as sabrage or sabraieren is said to have been invented by the famous French general and emperor (or rather, his officers) to celebrate the victories of Napoleon's troops or to overcome their defeats. This spectacularly effective method of decapitating a champagne bottle with the blunt end of a saber is still practiced today on ceremonial and celebratory occasions.

The champagne saber we offer here is significantly shorter than the iconic infantry saber it was inspired by and is more reminiscent of a large knife. However, the design and features of the original French briquette have been reproduced here as faithfully as possible. The blunt, slightly curved blade with a strong back and pointed tip is made of easy-care stainless steel. The handle is made of aluminum and features a typical arched hand guard, ending in a short, downward-curving guard.

An elegant wooden box covered in dark blue velvet is included to ensure the saber is not damaged during storage or transport. Of course, the box is also ideal for display.

This short saber is primarily designed for opening champagne bottles and is also a beautiful collectible, decorative item, accessory, or gift.

Details:

- Material: Stainless steel blade, aluminum handle.
- Total length: approx. 42.5cm

- Blade length: approx. 29.3 cm

- Blade thickness: approx. 5 mm (cutting edge approx. 2 mm)

- Handle length: approx. 13.2 cm (handle section approx. 10 cm)

- Maximum blade width: approx.
- Center of gravity: approx. 6.5 cm

- Includes wooden presentation box with dark blue velvet cover.
- Box dimensions (length x width x height): approx. 19 x 17 x 4 cm

- Weight: approx. 630 g

- Weight with box: approx. 1280 g

The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.

At Tienda Medieval, we have thousands of medieval and other period products.
