Although the light version was also popular, many considered the heavy model, nicknamed \u003ci\u003ethe Old Wrist Breaker\u003c\/i\u003e , to be the proper saber to carry into battle. Its blade, over 3 feet long, offered much greater reach than most sabers, and its considerable weight gave it excellent strength and leverage. The stout brass basket handle had three struts to protect the hand, and the wire-wrapped, leather-covered handle section culminated in a sturdy pommel.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003eFor its own version, Cold Steel® drew inspiration from antique pieces in private collections.
